Description:
The dulcimer's gentle and tranquil sound - a feast of various medieval instruments full of character. The dulcimer is a percussion instrument that is played by striking a number of strings stretched over a trapezoidal resonator box with a wooden stick called a hammer, which strikes the metal strings to produce sound. It is a percussion instrument that produces sound by striking metal strings. It has been used since the Middle Ages, and even today, it is often used to play Celtic dance tunes, British and American folk songs, and folklore music of various countries. The origin of the word "dulcimer" is Latin, and it is speculated that the word is derived from "dulce melos," meaning "sweet melody. It is sometimes called the "ancestor of the piano" due to its similarity in tone and the fact that it produces sound by striking metal strings (percussion instrument). The baroque sartelio, which succeeded the renaissance as the most popular instrument, spread especially in Italy and Spain in the 18th century, and was used in religious music as an instrument capable of expressing the most emotional sounds, full of tenderness and serenity. This album by Birgit Stolzenburg, currently the foremost authority on dulcimer playing, and Hans Breudel, lute & guitar player, ties together eight historical string instruments with beautiful melodic music from the medieval and baroque periods. In addition to the dulcimer, seven other types of dulcimers appear here: dulce melos (medieval dulcimer), salterio (Baroque dulcimer), contrabass dulcimer, bihuela, Renaissance guitar, Renaissance lute, and theorbo. This is a wonderful album that allows you to enjoy the deep reverberations of these unique medieval and Renaissance instruments. Sony Music
