Written in Paris in 1938, the Fifth possesses an emotionally rich and deeply personal narrative voice, dedicated to Martinů's muse, Věleslava Kaprálová.Nine years later, the Seventh, written in New York, marked a return to a calmer, more lyrical style and was dedicated to Martinů's wife, Charlotte. Formed in 2002, the Pavel Haas Quartet burst onto the international scene after winning the Paolo Borciani Competition in 2005. Their previous releases have all won Gramophone Awards and are highly regarded worldwide.
