The complete Brahms chamber music by eminent musicians on film! 16 hours of rare footage on one Blu-ray disc! The complete chamber music of Brahms will be re-released from the "Classical Archives" Blu-ray series, which is an excellent project to record a vast amount of footage on a single Blu-ray disc. (Formerly, 2064014 is no longer available.) This Blu-ray disc contains 16 hours of valuable footage from 8 DVDs. The highlight of the "Sonata" section is the violin sonata by Perlman and Barenboim. Both musicians were in their late 40s, a time when they were physically and mentally full of life, and their performances are rich and emotional. The cello sonatas by Perenyi and Kocsis are a rich dialogue between cello and piano, and the passion and melancholy of Brahms. The clarinet sonata by Wenzel Fuchs, principal of the Berlin Philharmonic, and Russian pianist Elena Bashkirova. The work shows the depth of his later years, but is full of fresh sensitivity, and Fuchs's extended tone resonates in the heart. The "Trio" part is a piano trio by Bashkirova, Vengerov, and Pergamenshikov, all of Russian descent.The piano, cello, and violin are each wonderfully expressive, and the performance is full of the charm and passion typical of Brahms. Also included are piano quartets by Schiff, Yuko Shiokawa, Perenyi, and Nobuko Imai, as well as performances by the prestigious Takács Quartet and the Vienna String Sextet, all of which are well grounded in the European chamber music tradition.
