During the War of the Spanish Succession, composers' duty was to create works that not only praised God, but also the prowess of their supporters (sponsors). Jordi Savall invites us into the world of two dazzling polyphonic musical masterpieces. The Mass by Francesco Varus is one of the last works composed based on the six-note scale (hexacord) proposed by Guido d'Arezzo, the medieval music teacher known for his "Guido's Hand. The work by Henri Demaret is a large-scale work with two choirs and orchestra, plus soloists and trumpets. Savard and his ensemble give a superb performance for your enjoyment. King International
