Ludovico Ferronati, the forgotten master of 18th-century Bergamo. Ensemble Locatelli, led by Thomas Kijoni, unveils this collection of concertos and motets in a world premiere recording. This collection features the world premiere recordings of works by the composer Rodolfo Ferronati (active 1710–1767), who was active in Bergamo, northern Italy, during the first half of the 18th century. Having served for many years as first violinist and concertmaster at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo, while also being an art collector and dealer who interacted directly with renowned painters such as Tiepolo, his music was long believed to have been largely lost. This revival project is of profound historical significance, based on manuscript scores discovered in the archives of Vienna, Dresden, and Bergamo through musicological research that began in 2019. The recording features five string concertos and two vocal motets. In accordance with 18th-century performance practice, appropriate cadenzas and ornamentation have been added by the performers. Particularly noteworthy is the unaccompanied cadenza inserted into the “Violin Concerto in C Major,” which draws inspiration from “Capriccio No. 1 (Op. 3)” by Pietro Antonio Locatelli—a fellow Bergamasan master who is believed to have been a student of Ferronati—highlighting the ensemble’s meticulous approach. Ensemble Locatelli is a Baroque ensemble playing on period instruments, founded by Thomas Kijoni, a cellist and conductor born in Bergamo in 1992. Kijoni conducts while performing on the cello and harpsichord, specializing in music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Based in Bergamo, the ensemble unearths forgotten Baroque masterpieces from Northern Italy and brings them to life through historically informed performances. Their previous release, *Pasquini: Oratorio *The Story of Moses in Egypt* (C01059), was nominated for the 2026 International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), and their scholarly and practical approach has earned them high international acclaim.
