Incognito’s Bluey and Gilles Peterson have launched a new project called Strata! This is the duo’s latest offering, showcasing the sound of early jazz-funk and the evolution of jazz fusion! The 12-inch single “Aspects,” released suddenly with little advance information, generated a buzz and sold out immediately. It was revealed that STR4TA—an artist who had been the talk of the town among key figures in the current jazz scene, including Moses Boyd, as well as legendary DJ François K and many music fans— (STR4TA)—who had been generating buzz among figures like Moses Boyd, a key player in the current jazz scene, as well as legendary DJ François K and many music fans—has been revealed to be a project by Giles Peterson and Bluie from Incognito. Their first album as this new duo, *Aspects*, is set to be released on *Brownswood*. Since the 1980s, Giles Peterson has been a key figure in the club scene. While focusing primarily on jazz, he has shattered the boundaries of musical genres, forged connections with numerous artists, and continues to exert a major influence on DJs and artists around the world. Joined by Bluey—leader of Incognito, a band at the pinnacle of acid jazz and jazz-funk, and renowned as one of the world’s finest guitarists—the duo revives the energy of the free-spirited and ever-evolving early ’80s Brit-funk scene for the modern era through *Strata*, presenting an evolved form of jazz-fusion. As longtime friends and collaborators, they have been exploring new musical possibilities since their formative years together, returning to the DIY spirit, the sensibility honed through live performances, and their powerful expressiveness. Both Giles and Bluey handled the composition and recording, adopting a simple and impulsive approach to production—much like when they first created the innovative sounds of Brit-funk back in the day. Giles unearthed memorable records with moments of brilliance, and Bluey drew new ideas from them to shape the album’s direction.
