Description:

Italian composer Lorenzo Perozzi, whom Puccini once praised as having "more music in his head than in mine and Mascagni's." He studied at the Milan Conservatory, was choral conductor at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice from 1894, then entered the priesthood, and by the late 1890s had achieved international fame for his religious works, including the oratorio "The Transfiguration of Jesus Christ." This album contains three of his chamber works and offers a full taste of his neat style. Piano Quintet No. 1, with its impressive piano passage that seems to well up at the beginning, and Piano Quintet No. 2, which begins with a mournful melody, were both written in the midst of grief over the death of his brother. Both pieces have a beautiful slow movement with a chorale-like melody and close with a lively final movement. The String Trio No. 2, also in the traditional style, uses bold rhythms in the midst of modesty, exploring a new pathway that Italian music of the time demanded. The performance is by an ensemble of members of the Roma Tre Orchestra, founded in 2005.It is the first university orchestra born in Rome and Lazio, dedicated to spreading great music to the younger generation. Violinist Hinoko Kawasaki lives in Rome. She is a highly acclaimed player who has participated in several ensembles. Naxos Japan
