This piece was composed in the same year as the "Elegant Indian Countries" (1733). The first performance of "Spirits or Aspects of Love" by Mlle. Duval in 1736 at the Opéra de Paris, where Rameau was becoming the new darling of the age with "Ippolito and Arisi" (1733) and "The Elegant Indian Countries" (1735/36). This is a recording of the complete "The Spirits, or Aspects of Love" by Mlle. Even in 17th and 18th century France, where there were many talented women, opera composition was overwhelmingly male-dominated, and the first time a work by a female composer was performed at the Opera of the Royal Academy of Music in Paris was in 1694 with Jaquet de la Guerre's "Cephal and Procris" (world premiere complete work on the same label as this disc). After that, there were no operas by female composers until the French Revolution, which was followed by a new work by Mme. Beauménil in 1784. Mlle. Duval, the composer, was born out of wedlock to a high clergyman and a dancer at the opera house, and in 1730 she became a member of the chorus of the opera house, but the following year she was involved in a scandal and left her post.After a few years away from Paris, he premiered "The Spirits" under the auspices of his own father, who also participated as keyboardist. Although the somewhat conservative style of the piece, with no shortage of Italian-style songs, was not popular at the time, the fresh interpretations by the best French classical musicians of the 21st century have brought out the full flavor of the work's diverse love stories of various spirits, and the charm is endless. The Baroque music drama spun by the singing of singers in top form, such as Pervost, Valiquette, and Reynolds, is supported by a full orchestra of Ensemble Il Caravaggio, which is attractive for its beautiful tone quality of each ancient instrument and thrilling ensemble, and the numerous dance tracks are rich in ups and downs.
