Description:

The French royal family's favorite requiem, newly recorded by the country's elite, also includes a motet of a different form! Jean Gilles was born in 1668, the same year as the great Couperin. He was born in 1668, the same year as the great Couperin, and was active exclusively in the south of France throughout his life, but he did not come to Paris or Versailles until his early death. The famous subscription concerts of the Concerts de la Concère were held in Paris in 1830. The famous Concert Spiritsuelle, which was inaugurated 20 years ago, has performed the works of the old master many times, and the people of Paris continued to applaud his Requiem, which has been as much a part of the 20th century revival of old music as those of Charpentier and du Mont. The latest recording of his Requiem was made in the royal chapel of the Palace of Versailles, which has been a place of prayer for the Bourbon kings. The choir of the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV), led by the talented Fabien Armengaud, has been persistently introducing the hidden charms of French 17th- and 18th-century music through performances and recordings. The instrumentalists, Les Folies Françaises, an elite group that has sublimated the results of their research at the CMBV into incomparable performances, have created an exquisite interpretation that brings out the best of the remaining score. The commentary by CMBV musicologist Julien Dubrucq is also excellent, and the depth of French Baroque music and the depth of the European classical music scene are well documented. This is a new recording that will once again surprise you with the depth of French Baroque music and the depth of the European classical music world. Naxos Japan
