Description:
Prometheus" is the final work in Orff's trilogy of Greek texts, following Antigone (1949) and Oedipus (1959), and was first performed on March 24, 1968 under the baton of Ferdinand Leitner to great acclaim. The work is sung as if it were a narrative, utilizing the unique intonation of the ancient Greek language and accompanied by a variety of percussion. The orchestration is large, but the singing is supported by an unexpectedly stoic sound. This live recording from 1975 conducted by Kubelik is known as an excellent performance filled with a sense of urgency. Naxos Japan
