We have already released Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 (DCCA-0052) and Symphony No. 5 (DCCA-0047), and now, after much anticipation, his masterpiece, the “Pathetique,” is finally being released. Furthermore, this reissue utilizes our second-generation technology, which has received widespread acclaim across numerous previous releases. For these SP records, we undertook the incredibly painstaking process of manually removing as much noise as possible. While the restoration process for LP records already takes a considerable amount of time, as you know, SP records—when played with a stylus—are plagued by an excessive amount of annoying crackling noise, making the work extremely difficult. However, unlike when using noise filters, this method minimizes damage to the sound itself. Since it has such a significantly positive effect—preserving the original timbre, dynamic range, spatial depth, and the expansive soundstage despite being monaural—we employ this method whenever possible. Since these are reissues originally sourced from SP records, some noise inherent to the discs and noise generated during playback inevitably remains; however, even accounting for this, I believe the quality is still more than sufficient for enjoyment. Unlike Beethoven or Wagner, the maestro did not leave behind as many recordings of Tchaikovsky. As creators, we would be overjoyed if this product could become something that fans and enthusiasts would want to keep in their collections, even if only for a short while. We hope you’ll give it a listen—you’ll surely feel the maestro’s deep affection for Tchaikovsky. *Please note that since this was mastered from an SP record, there is some surface noise.
