In July 1992, the classical world was shocked by the sudden and tragic death of Hetzel in a mountain climbing accident. Hetzel, who was unquestionably one of the greatest concertmasters of all time, had stubbornly refused every proposal to record a solo recording, perhaps because of his honest and perfectionist nature. After much persuasion, he finally succeeded in making this recording in January 1992. Unfortunately, this was his first and last solo recording. Mr. Hetzel was convinced to record this Brahms. It is a heartwarming performance with a very robust and unique flavor. It is a piece that will be burned into your ears and you will want to listen to it again and again.
