The Hymn of the Nations is sung by Decca's star singer, the young British-born Italian tenor Fredi De Tomaso. The work, which premiered in London in 1862, incorporates the national anthems of England, France, and Italy: "O God preserve the Queen," "La Marseillaise," and "Mamelli's Hymn" (The Hymn of the Italians). The work is performed in the following languages The "Four Psalms" were published as a set in 1898, shortly before Verdi's death, and the work is imbued with hope for peace and paradise. The Italian soprano Barbara Lavarian sings the fourth song, "Te Deum.
