Kain’s *Cybernetics III* is a work that brilliantly anticipated advances in synthesis, computer processing, recording technology, and the development of samplers and sequencers. As these technologies were embraced by the generation of artists following Kain, the framework of electronic music was completely reshaped. As a result, it can be said that *Cybernetics III* was a work that foreshadowed a major transformation in creative thinking. Luigi Nono was a composer who was widely known and highly regarded throughout his life. A central figure in postwar serial music, he rose to prominence in the 1950s and, alongside Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Boulez, became one of the “trinity of avant-garde music.” *Contrapunto dialettico alla mente* was composed for two-channel magnetic tape in 1968, a year in which Nono was deeply involved in the international student movement and the anti-Vietnam War protests. Nono conceived the work as based on a madrigal comedy by the early 17th-century composer Adriano Banchieri, and explained, “I sought to reflect the musical processes used by Banchieri—that is, focusing on the voice, incorporating the sound materials of the time, and exaggerating elements—particularly the lyrical and dramatic ones—for the sake of humor and parody… but within the context of today’s reality.” Universal Music/IMS
