《Anton Rubinshtein's little-known large-scale opera, world premiere recording》 This opera, Moses, is based on a major work by Salomon Hermann von Mosenthal (1821-1877), the Austrian playwright and famous author of "The Merry Wives of Windsor." Anton Rubinshtein composed it between 1885 and 1891, presenting the entire story of the Prophet in eight imaginative images, and it was also composed as an oratorio (1895) by Max Bruch at about the same time. Rubinshtein composed the piece for a performance at the New German Theater in Prague in 1892 (the Prague State Opera as of 2018), and even though rehearsals were held, the theater went bankrupt and all performances were cancelled. A performance was then planned for a different venue, but by that time these religious operas had become unpopular and were never performed. 15 October 2017 at the Warsaw National Philharmonic, the work was premiered in concert form by the same members of the orchestra as on this CD! The CD is available for purchase at the Warsaw State Philharmonic.The conductor for this performance was Michal Jurowski (father of conductor Vladimir Jurowski), who in recent years has been involved in the revival of these unknown composers' works, and collaborated on the premiere. It also required a large orchestra and chorus and more than 10 soloists, and was performed after years of preparation, including score revision and performance research, with the cooperation of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and UNESCO. The enchanting music, which retains its expressive neo-romantic style and features magnificent arias, ensembles, and dramatic episodes from the biblical syllables, is particularly impressive.
