Kahanek takes on the Dvořák and Martinů concertos with good support from Frusha & the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra! Ivo Kahanek records the piano concertos by Dvořák and Martineau. Co-performed by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jakub Frusha, and co-produced by the Sprafon label and the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation! Dvořák's only piano concerto was composed in 1876 and rewritten several times. It was performed on piano by Karel Slavkovsky, who commissioned the composition and dedicated the work to Dvořák. Although it is performed less frequently than the Violin Concerto, it is an essential work for understanding Dvořák's works. The coupling piece is by Bohuslav Martineau, a Czech composer for whom the Sprafon label has been releasing new recordings with great enthusiasm. Martineau is known as a prolific composer, having written over 400 works during his lifetime, including five piano concertos. The fourth, entitled "Spell," was commissioned by Rudolf Firkschny, one of the greatest Czech pianists of all time.
