Description:
Morales sung by De Profundis! Mass "A Thousand Sorrows"! The fourth Hyperion release by the male voice Renaissance ensemble "De Profundis", which explores the unknown depths of the Spanish Renaissance! Two Masses and Magnificat by Morales! Conducted by Robert Hollingworth & Eamon Dugan! De Profundis, a male vocal ensemble specializing in Renaissance music, was founded in 2011 by Mark Dourish, a former member of Lee Fagiolini and the Cambridge Taverner Choir, and has been gaining attention for its originality. Bernardino de Rivera" (CDA68141), "Sebastián de Vivanco" (CDA68257), and "Juan Esquivel" (CDA68326), de Profundiz has been actively recording unknown Spanish Renaissance music, and Hyperion The fourth volume features two masses and a Magnificat by Cristóbal de Morales (c.1500-1553). Morales was a great Spanish Renaissance composer and perhaps the most famous composer of his time, active in the period between the death of Josquin des Prez and the rise of Palestrina and Lassus.Although he is a prominent musician compared to previous recordings (de Rivera, de Vivanco, Esquivel), full-scale research and studies are still in progress, and the recordings of the masses and Magnificat included in this recording are limited. The main mass, "Mille regretz," is a parody mass based on a French chanson, known as Josquin's "Thousand Sorrows," which was famously played by the Tensho Mission to Europe for Boys for Toyotomi Hideyoshi after his return. The Mass "Desilde al cavallero" is based on a popular Spanish song of the time, also used in the works of Cabezon and Gombert, although it is not well known today, and both are thought to have been written at a relatively early date in Morales' career. Another characteristic of de Profundiz is that he does not have a fixed musical director, but invites a specialist to conduct each project. This time, Robert Hollingworth, founder of I Fagiolini, and Eamon Dugan, associate conductor of The Sixteenth, who has demonstrated his skills in a series of recordings of Polish Baroque music that are not well known on the Coro label, will conduct respectively. The original songs of Josquin's "A Thousand Sorrows" and "Desilde al cavallero" are also included, sung by Martha Macrolinan, and the Mass "A Thousand Sorrows" includes both the 1544 version and the 1535/7 first draft version of the Sanctus - Agnus Dei, making for a seamless program. The composition is also a major point of interest. Tokyo M-Plus
