Haydn composed more than 40 piano trios during his illustrious career. And despite the fact that so many of his works have survived, each of them has its own unique character and charm. In this album, as in the previous installments of the series, Haydn's contrasting trio works are combined to give the audience a wonderful insight into the character and appeal of each Haydn work. Also of note is that as part of this recording project, contemporary composers have been commissioned to create works inspired by Haydn's piano trios, and this album couples the world premiere recording of Kit Armstrong, one of the world's most celebrated pianists. Trio Gaspard was founded in 2010 by members from Germany, Greece, and England, and has been praised for its fresh interpretations and approaches, regularly performing in the world's major concert halls such as the Vigmore Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have won the Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar and the Haydn International Chamber Music Competition in Vienna, and have actively featured Haydn's works in their concerts since their inception.
