Kalinnikov's orchestral music collection, featuring MDG's high quality recordings Kalinnikov was a genius with a gift, but he died prematurely at the age of 35 due to pulmonary tuberculosis. His talent and brilliance were concentrated in his Symphony No. 1, which is a miraculous and fascinating work. The long-awaited latest recording of this work, made possible by MDG's high-quality sound recording, features a breathtakingly beautiful harp in the first movement's recapitulation section, which is not usually heard in most recordings. Kalinnikov's short life and the pressures of composing did not allow him to concentrate on many of his works, but here we can enjoy a wealth of his major orchestral works. Estonian conductor Mikkel Kutoson, born in 1971, is an acclaimed opera conductor and has been the conductor of the Niederrhein Symphony Orchestra since 2012. The Niederrhein Symphony Orchestra is the predecessor of the Krefeld City Orchestra, which gave the world premiere of Mahler's Symphony No. 3.
