Finnish pianist Jonas Ahonen (1984-), acclaimed for Ligeti's music and Beethoven playing the historical piano, makes his second BIS release after Ligeti's "Piano Concerto" (BISSA2209). The album features two works by Ives that have come to be widely understood around the world, beyond the "local" and "nostalgic" "American. Violin Sonata No. 4, subtitled "Children's Day at Camp Meeting," was inspired by memories of the summer camps that were active in his native Connecticut in the late 19th century. The first movement "Allegro" and the second movement "Largo". In the third movement, "Allegro," the melody of the hymn "Soon by the stream in the distance" is quoted in a way that makes the listener's imagination fly further even after the sound has disappeared (Keiji Okuda, "The Birth of 'American Music'" Kawade Shobo Shinsha, p.230).The Piano Sonata No. 2 "Concord, Massachusetts, 1840-1860," also known as the "Concord Sonata," is a work that expresses in sound the artist's sympathy for his ancestors who lived in Concord, the origin of the New England temperament. Emerson, the transcendentalist writer and philosopher; Hawthorne, the novelist; the Orchard House, the symbol of Concord Village; Bronson Alcott and Louisa May Alcott, the Orchard House father and daughter, and their attempts at self-sufficiency in the woods at Walden Pond. Thoreau, a thinker who compiled his book "Life in the Walden Ponds" about his life in the woods of Walden Pond. The "four notes" that begin the Fifth Symphony, which Ives considers "Beethoven's greatest message of all," are quoted and used as themes throughout the four movements. The violin in the Violin Sonata and the "optional" viola in "Emerson" are played by Finland's Pekka Kuusisto (1976-). She has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor in Finland and around the world.He is the Artistic Director of the ACO Collective (Australian Chamber Orchestra) and Artistic Partner of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota.
