Otter has recorded a collection of beautiful art songs by composers from her native Sweden. When it comes to Swedish composers, names like Alvéen and Stenhammar come to mind, but the four composers featured here were born about 100 years earlier and left behind numerous art songs in an early Romantic style. At that time, the legendary Swedish soprano Jenny Lind (1820–1887) was taking Europe by storm, and many of the works included here are said to have been composed specifically for her to perform. Otter, hailed as the “modern-day Jenny Lind,” sings these lyrical pieces with crystalline clarity. The sound of the Swedish language is also delightful, immersing the listener in the feeling of traveling through Scandinavia. King International
