Description:
Ullen once again pushes the boundaries of the piano. CD with sheet music. Fredrik Ullen, known alongside Amram as a pianist with superhuman virtuosity, has released a highly anticipated new album that is, once again, an incredibly challenging piece. It features “Trinity” by American composer George Flynn [1937–], a monumental work in three parts that lasts a full 114 minutes. Composed over a 25-year span from 1968 to 1993, the title refers to the work’s three-part structure and the place name in New Mexico where the first nuclear test was conducted in 1945. According to the composer himself, “Underground” and “Wounding” represent the era of 20th-century violence (Poland during World War II and Vietnam in the 1960s), while “Rescue” explores reconciliation and confronts that reality. The piece demands a great deal from both performers and listeners in terms of length, technical difficulty, and content. In fact, due to its extreme difficulty, Uhlen has performed only one movement at a time on each of the three previous occasions. While there are always daring musicians eager to take on such an extremely difficult piece, fortunately, this release includes the full score. This is a must-have for fans of virtuosic piano scores. (Information from the importer) George Flynn: “Trinity” ・“The Sewers” (1976) ・“The Wounded” (1968) ・“The Rescue” (1993) Fredrik Uhlen (piano)
