Led by guitarist Virxilioda Silva (g), who composed all the tracks, the jazz-rock band JUZZ—based in Galicia, Spain—has released their second album in 2026 via the Spanish label aMARXE! JUZZ first gained attention from prog fans when their debut album—originally released only as a self-produced LP—was finally released on CD and distributed six years later by the aMARXE label, known for delivering numerous excellent works of avant-rock and (neo-)Canterbury music. With a six-piece lineup that includes dedicated Hammond, Fender, and saxophone players, the band focuses on vintage arrangements rooted in 60s psychedelic and art rock, while incorporating a wide range of musical styles from free jazz to Canterbury, post-rock, and minimal music. Their unconventional jazz-rock sound remains as strong as ever on this album. "DasCabinet" features a theme driven by powerful unison playing between guitar and saxophone, elevated to new heights by a wild guitar solo; "NostalxiaAdolescente," where a love for Canterbury music is palpable through its hazy analog synths, organ, and saxophone; and "Supernova," which features a deep sonic space reminiscent of "Kosmische Musik." The album is packed with exploratory tracks that transcend genre boundaries. With an even greater emphasis on introspection and a cool, restrained aesthetic than its predecessor, this is an excellent work that establishes a new direction for the band!
