Exuding an overwhelming vocal talent and a one-of-a-kind personality, the future soul band led by Naomi " Naomi “Nai Palm” Zaalfeld (g, vo), who exudes a one-of-a-kind personality with her overwhelming vocal prowess and intense stage presence, is at the heart of Hiatus Kaiyote, a four-piece band that also includes Paul Bender (b), Simon Marvin (key), and Perrin Moss (ds). They have built a solid global reputation, having been nominated for two Grammy Awards, performed at numerous festivals—including the world’s largest, Glastonbury—and appeared in Japan at Fuji Rock’s Green Stage, Summer Sonic, and Green Room. Having stayed away from releasing new music since 2015’s *Choose Your Weapon*, the band has signed a surprise deal with *Brainfeeder*—the label headed by Flying Lotus and home to the Grammy-winning Thundercat—and released their first new album in six years, *Mood Variant*! This track, reportedly produced during a trip to Rio de Janeiro in late 2019, features legendary Brazilian producer and arranger Arthur Verocai as a guest artist. After hearing the track—reimagined by Verocai with the addition of horns and strings—every member of the band reportedly felt a sense of liberation. Retaining their signature organic and unique groove while reaching a new level with a more refined sound and greater sonic depth, the band has now completed their greatest masterpiece to date.
