Description:
<Born in Budapest in 1969, Tamás Varga has been principal cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for more than 20 years, and his solo performances with this orchestra are among the highlights of Varga's brilliant performing career. Among the highlights are performances of Schumann's Cello Concerto with Christoph Eschenbach conducting, Richard Strauss' "Don Quixote" with Zubin Mehta conducting, and Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor with Andris Nelsons conducting, all to In the 2018/2019 academic year, the Varga will perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto with concertmaster Albena Danailova and the world-renowned pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, again under the baton of Andris Nelsons. Varga has performed as a soloist on every continent of the world and has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Adam Fischer, Seiji Ozawa, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Pinkus Steinberg, and Michael Tilson Thomas.Varga, like Tilson Thomas, is convinced that one of his fundamental responsibilities is to pass on his knowledge and experience to the younger generation of musicians. Varga has given master classes around the world, recently visiting Australia, China, Vietnam, Japan, and the United States. He teaches using state-of-the-art technology and via the Internet. Teaching the cello section of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra in Sydney is another new challenge for Varga. Projects such as his participation in the 2018 anniversary concert of the National Youth Orchestras of Chile and Venezuela at the invitation of Gustavo Dudamel have also reaffirmed for Varga the importance of working with young musicians to discover the power of music to bring people together, to empower them, and to complement each other. Varga was once again convinced of the importance of working with young musicians to discover music's power to connect, empower, and complement each other. She is also devoted to chamber music and regularly performs at prestigious festivals such as the Vienna Art Week, the Budapest Spring Festival, and the Rheingau Music Festival.During the 2018 Salzburg Festival, Varga and other compatriots of the Vienna Philharmonic hosted a festive chamber concert at Salzburg's Mozarteum. Chamber music performers included Ferenc Bogner, Frederic Chaslin, Christopher Hinterhuber, Karl Leister, Bobby McFarlin, Daniel Ottenzamer, Karl-Heinz Schütz, and Tamás Váshári, as well as the Bartók String Quartet and Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, among others. Over the past 25 years, Tamás Varga has recorded over 30 CDs for Camerata Tokyo, Naxos, Hungaroton, King Records, and Cavalli Records. (2/2) Camerata Tokyo
