Description:

[Panorama Series: Semi-New Pressings / Encore Pressings] "Panorama" is a series for beginners of classical music that compiles masterpieces of classical music by composer in two-disc sets using Deutsche Grammophon and Decca sound sources. With the exception of a few operas and other works, there are no fade-outs or movement excerpts, and the series is based on the recording of all the movements of a single work. The performances are all masterpieces that can be recommended with confidence. This is an encore pressing of 40 carefully selected titles. Wagner's second collection is the highlight of the "Ring of the Nibelung" tetralogy. Karajan's recording of the complete works from 1966 to 1969 caused a sensation when it was released, and this performance is still known today as one of the best recordings of the complete "Ring" cycle. The two CDs contain excerpts of well-known scenes from this recording of the complete works, which Karajan carefully crafted with all of the Wagner singers of the time. [Performers] Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (baritone), Gerhard Stoltze (tenor), Robert Kearns (baritone), Donald Grobe (tenor), Zoltan Kelemen (baritone), Martti Tarvela (bass), Karl Ridderbusch (bass) Josephine Wiese (mezzo-soprano), Simone Mangelsdorf (soprano), Helen Donato (soprano), Edda Moser (soprano), Anna Reynolds (mezzo-soprano), John Vickers (tenor), Thomas Stuart (baritone) Gundula Janowitz (soprano), Liselotte Leppmann (soprano), Danisa Mastilovic (soprano), Ingrid Steger (soprano), Lilo Brockhaus (alto), Carlotta Oldacy (soprano), Barbro Erickson (alto), and Tsvetka Ahlin (alto), Helga Jenkel (alto), Jess Thomas (tenor), Katherine Geyer (soprano), Helge Brilliort (tenor), Helga Dernesch (soprano), Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra / Conductor: Herbert von Karajan Recorded: December 1967 (1), December 1966 (2), December 1968 (3), October 1969 (4), Berlin
