Description:
<The latest reissue of the master tapes of valuable stereo recordings made during Schuchter's tenure as the permanent conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. All but the Flute Concerto No. 2 are on DISC for the first time! The rigorously crafted ensemble is brought back to life on SACD! World's first SACD release. Mastering was done in pursuit of the original sound, and these valuable recordings by Schuchter made between 1959 and 1962 have been reissued. Many of the recordings made in stereo at the time were broadcast in mono, but in response to requests from listeners, Victor released the recordings on vinyl. This latest reissue is mastered from the master tapes of the time, and includes all the recordings that had not been released on DISC except for the Flute Concerto No. 2. Schuchter was a member of the NHK Symphony Orchestra for only three years. In that short time, he brought the Symphony Orchestra to a world-class level, and it has been long awaited that the recordings be reissued. In the 98-year history of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1926, Wilhelm Schuchter (1911-74) is always mentioned as the conductor who dramatically improved the ensemble.Schuchter became the permanent conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in March 1959, and during his three-year tenure, he trained the orchestra thoroughly as a broadcast orchestra and replaced about one-third of the musicians, thereby successfully laying the foundation for the ensemble and leading to the subsequent development of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Schuchter studied conducting under Hermann Arbentroth at the Cologne University of Music, and was the first conductor at the Aachen Staatsoper from 1941 to 1942, where he won the trust of the general music director, Karajan. In the morning, he conducted the NHK Symphony Orchestra to record Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony for broadcast, and in the afternoon he flew to Sendai to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic in place of Karajan, who was suddenly ill. It seems that this was a "blind date" arranged by Karajan, who had been a great admirer of Schuchter's since his days in Aachen, and he was soon appointed as the permanent conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
