Description:

Cavalleria Rusticana" Tridu is unable to forget his former lover (now a married woman) Laura, despite the fact that he has a fiancée, Santuzza. Taking advantage of the fact that Laura's husband is often away, Tridhoo and Laura meet repeatedly. Santuzza is jealous and sad, and tells Laura's husband Alfio about their relationship... Canio is the leader of a traveling troupe of "clowns. Canio is the leader of a traveling troupe of clowns. He has a beautiful young wife, Nedda. He has a beautiful young wife, Nedda, but she has a lover, a young man named Silvio, who lives in a certain village. The troupe has come to the village where Silvio lives. Naturally, Nedda is excited at the prospect of meeting Silvio, and this time she begins to discuss the possibility of eloping with him. When Canio learns of this, he is finally unable to distinguish between reality and madness... The two works that pioneered the verismo (realism) opera boom, "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "The Clown," are both short in running time, and both are also very popular because of their themes of "jealousy, strong love and hate," which are inescapable human emotions. Because of their short running time and themes of "jealousy, love, and hate," they are often performed in succession in a single evening. In this video, too, director Damiano MICHIELETTO sets the two stories in 1980 in a poor village in southern Italy, and the characters move back and forth between them, creating the illusion of a single story in progress. The young tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko gives an excellent performance as "the man who betrays" and "the man who is betrayed," strongly emphasizing the depth of human karma. Pappano's conducting makes us realize that these works belonging to the late Romantic period are full of rich resonance. Naxos Japan
