Description:
Known as "Beethoven's disciple" or "the composer of tiresome exercises," Czerny was a writer of "highly fashionable works" in 19th century Vienna, and was at the forefront of developing technology for the "new piano that was just emerging. It was truly an honor to achieve high fame in Vienna, where at the time the ratio of piano teachers to doctors was three to one. Czerny himself, however, was by nature modest, and lived his life solely to "perform the works of Beethoven, whom he respected," without any self-promotion or showy performances. This album features Czerny's first "Piano Concerto" (world premiere recording), composed when he was 20 years old, and two rondos. The Piano Concerto, strongly influenced by Beethoven, has a high drama with trumpet fanfares heard here and there. The gorgeous Rondo is a work in which Czerny's advanced technique is used to its fullest extent. Naxos Japan
