This is the sixth collection of orchestral works by Grieg (1843-1907), one of NAXOS' popular series. This is a treasure trove of Scandinavian melodies, and this collection is also full of heartwarming and beautiful sounds. Some of the pieces in this collection have their origins in piano music or Norwegian folk music. The first piece, "Two Sad Melodies," was originally arranged from a song, and the melody of "Spring" (春) is particularly well known, as it is often played at funerals in Norway. The original lyrics of the song are a prayer of thanksgiving to the landscape and the warm sunlight as an old man welcomes his last spring before departing this life. All the other songs are a bit heartbreaking, evoking the rich nature of Scandinavia. The exceptional string music surpasses even the human voice. Naxos Japan
