This album celebrates the 75th anniversary of his birth, honoring a composer who continues to craft music that values pleasing melodies and originality, unaffected by passing trends. “Oxymorons—24 Preludes” is a collection of short musical poems depicting impressions of friends and landscapes from his youth spent in Oxford. Like Chopin’s preludes, it is structured to cycle through all the keys. The title “Oxymorons” (expressions combining contradictions) embodies his own commitment to defying trends and continuing to compose music with beautiful melodies. *Scenes from My Boyhood in South Africa* is a collection of nine short pieces that trace the composer’s childhood memories of growing up in a mansion surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery of Cape Town.
