In Conrad Asman’s “Color Concerto,” the soloist mimics the surrounding instruments like a chameleon, showcasing her versatile technique. The work by Rulof Temming, considered one of South Africa’s most influential composers, features an exquisite contrast between an introspective first movement and a second movement bursting with humor and vitality. The highlight of David Earl’s concerto is its dynamic final movement, which uses a melody from the medieval folk song “The Armed Man” as the basis for a set of variations.
