This album is a tribute to Beatrice Harrison (1892-1965), an English cellist born during the "Pre-Raphaelite" artistic movement that emerged in 19th century England and active in the first half of the 20th century, and the composers who surrounded her. Harris, who specialized in works by Dilius and Elgar, became widely known when her performance, accompanied by a nightingale song, was broadcast live by BBC Radio in her garden on May 19, 1924, attracting more than one million listeners. This album, produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of that broadcast, features works by Hugo Becker, with whom Harrison studied, and by Ivan Knoll, his teacher in Frankfurt, and by a group of composers known as "The Frankfurt Gang" who studied under Knoll.The album includes 10 world premiere recordings, including previously unpublished works such as "L'Amour de moy" arranged by Quilter, a favorite of Harrison's, as well as previously undiscovered works from her archives. Scott's "Pastoral and Reel," performed by Julian Lloyd Webber in a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Harrison's birth, is also included. The concert will be performed by cellist Adrian Bradbury, who has worked with the English National Opera, London Sinfonietta, London Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
