Daniel Harding, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra
Description:
Harding's first "The Planets" is now available on a rare and majestic scale! Although Harding hails from England, surprisingly there has been no recording of the complete "Planets" until now, with only the live performance of "Jupiter" at the Schönbrunn Palace Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic. The live recording with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks is a real highlight. The entire performance lasts nearly 57 minutes, which is unusually long for a recording of this piece, which usually lasts around 50 minutes. The slow tempo allows the phrases to sing with plenty of expression, and the bass oboe is given prominence in this recording, which is intended to make the most of the special orchestration. According to information from the label, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra had not performed this piece for a long time. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has not played this piece for a long time, and Harding's interpretation of "The Planets" is as he likes it, with an orchestra that is highly skilled but not steeped in tradition. In "Mars," Harding sets the tempo with a heavy sound, and sings powerfully in the famous melody of the middle section of "Jupiter. In "Saturn," the contrast between the contemplative softness and the explosive middle section is striking. In the final part of "Neptune," the female chorus sings a vocalise that is repeated very slowly before being reduced to a very low volume and disappearing. While utilizing the outward effects of this piece, the performance also evokes a deep inner nature.
