Description:

2020 Beethoven 250th Anniversary Release. The complete symphonies by noted conductor Trevino on SACD hybrid! Live from the "Beethoven Festival" in Malmö, Sweden in October 2019! The Beethoven Festival is a concert of the Beethoven Festival held in Malmö, Sweden, live in October 2019. Trevino's fresh and imaginative interpretations of a wide range of repertoire, from classical works to contemporary compositions, have been successful in bringing out natural and musical expression from the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, which has been engaged by many conductors to perform Beethoven's works. Trevino's performance of Beethoven, which had been the subject of many conductors' efforts, brought a breath of fresh air to the orchestra's performance. Trevino adopted a period approach, but made full use of the orchestra's resonance to accentuate the individuality of each piece. The classical style of the First and Second Symphonies has an elegant expression reminiscent of Mozart, and even the somber funeral march in the Third Symphony is not overly heavy. The Fourth Symphony, written at the time of Beethoven's stylistic transition, is given a somewhat romantic expression, while the Fifth Symphony powerfully depicts Beethoven's aspirations from anguish to victory. The Sixth Symphony, with its brilliantly divided movements, is followed by the Seventh and Eighth Symphonies, which have a strong dance element, and offer vivid music with careful tempo settings for each movement. The fast tempo of the last movement of No. 7 is especially noteworthy. The orchestra meets Trevino's seemingly reckless demands and delivers a dazzling performance. The soloists in No. 9 are all singers with youthful voices, creating a fresh image of Beethoven that Trevino must have been aiming for. The recording, which captures the rich reverberation of the hall in its entirety, is also a must-hear, and the SACD layer includes a multi-channel recording. (1/2) Naxos Japan
