This is the second collection of cantatas by Italian Baroque composer Nicola Fargo. As in the first collection (TOCC-367), the "Santa Teresa di Maschi" led by Strano's countertenor and Mantuzzo gives a lively performance. Born in Taranto, Italy, Fargo, known as "Il Tarantino," was a leading exponent of the "chamber cantata" (a kind of mini-opera for voice and ensemble) that developed during this period, and his works are dramatic and full of charming melodies. As in the first collection, there are instrumental pieces in between (in this album, Stipriani's Toccata), and the whole is structured as one work, which is also noteworthy. Naxos Japan
