Born in Argentina in 1969, pianist Nelson Goerner won a prize at the 1990 Geneva International Competition, and since then has frequently visited Japan, where he has gained popularity for his sensitive and beautiful music. This 2009 Brahms concert attracted attention not only for Gellner's magnificent solo performance, but also for Odaka's perfect control of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Piano and orchestra competed with each other, including the horn solo at the beginning and the cello in the third movement, and spun out an unflinchingly beautiful Brahms, including virtuosic performances in key moments.
