Description:

This ambitious work features the classical Egyptian suite Wasrah performed by Oudh and Rikh! Buda Musique, one of France's leading world music/folk music labels, proudly presents one of its newest releases for 2024. This is a remarkable unit from Egypt, which used to be the center of classical and popular music as a source of Arab culture. Tarek Abdallah (1975-), an oud player and composer from Alexandria, Egypt's northernmost city, now based in France, and Adel Shah, a percussionist also from Alexandria and also active in France (playing mainly the Arab frame drum "riq Adel Shams El Din (1950- ), also from Alexandria and also a percussionist active in France (mainly playing the Arabic frame drum "riq"), is the unit. Tarek is an unusual player, having longed to be an oud player since childhood, but his family was against it, and he finally started playing at the age of 19. Adel, on the other hand, is considered one of the rare riqq players who have mastered the rhythms of Arabic classical music, which is considered the most complex of all music. The two released an album titled "Wasla" under the same name on Buda in 2015, and it became a big hit. Wasla is an Egyptian classical music suite that was mainly performed from the late 19th to the early 20th century, where the two of them simply enjoyed playing together. The second edition of this work, which appeared about 10 years later, follows the same style of the Egyptian suite form of wasla as the previous one. Here, the five maqaams (a melody in Arab classical music) are used to create a suite that ties together instrumental performances of different cycles. Although there is some violin playing and singing in some of the pieces, the basic instrumentation is simple, with only Tarek's oud and Adel's riq, and the music is very deep classical music. The accompanying booklet contains explanations of the pieces in French and English, and is highly recommended for fans of Arabic classical music. Of course, it is also worthwhile to simply enjoy the pleasant instrumental performances by Oud and Rik. This is a must-have for lovers of Arabic classical music.
