Born in Hungary, Vegh studied violin with Hubay and composition with Kodály at the Liszt School of Music from 1924, making his debut as a violinist under the direction of Richard Strauss in 1927. He founded the Hungarian Quartet, where he remained until 1940, and also premiered Bartók's "String Quartet No. 5. Since then, he has been active as a violinist and conductor, and became a French citizen in 1953. He also had an outstanding record as an educator, most notably teaching at the Salzburg Mozarteum Conservatory from 1971 to 1997, where he trained many young musicians.This box contains the famous performances with the Mozarteum Camerata Academica, which he assumed as conductor in 1979, and includes familiar Mozart works, Haydn, Bach, and even Bartók's "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta," which is his specialty.
