The first release of Schumann's Symphony No. 4 and Brahms: Symphony No. 1 from the last concert in Japan, Peter Mark and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra showed an exquisite combination of the two. This is the fourth title released by Tobu Recording, and it continues to receive favorable reviews, with Bl. 5 and "New World" receiving Recogei Special Mention, and Schumann receiving a Semi-Special Mention. Schumann's symphony, No. 4, which seems to be a perfect fit for the mark, is finally available. It is a superb performance that beautifully articulates the melancholy and nervous inner turmoil. The Brahms surprises with a grandiose start reminiscent of Furtwängler's, but then it is lyrical and lucid, as is always Mark's style. This is a superb performance with a unique personality that relentlessly pursues commonalities with Schumann. Sadly, these concerts were to be my last visit to Japan. The Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra's wind instruments were very skillful, proving that they were in good form even at that time. Excellent digital recording. Tobu Land System
