Born in New York City in 1954 to a stage actor father and a folk singer mother, she began her musical career at the age of 16 with a role in the Broadway musical "Hair," which led to a series of musical appearances and collaborations with Melba Moore and others. Her second album, a cover of Bobby Womack's "Daylight," was a smash hit. The song has a healthy disco sound and the vocal ability cultivated in musicals is pleasant to listen to.
