World premiere on CD (Nos. 1, 2, and 4), Japan premiere on CD (Nos. 7 and 8) *The complete works, the culmination of 20th century orchestral aesthetics, are finally available on CD. Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra were, along with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic, the epitome of 20th century orchestral aesthetics, and the recordings from No. 2 in 1961 to No. 5 in 1966 were made over a seven-year period to celebrate Ormandy's 30th year in the orchestra, The "Beethoven: The Complete Symphonies" set, released in 1968 to commemorate Ormandy's 30th year with the Philadelphia Orchestra, is another performance that bears the stamp of Ormandy's character to the fullest. The thick and strong string ensemble is the foundation of this performance, and the woodwind and brass players, who boast of their virtuosity, create a rich and exquisite sound. This is the only Beethoven cycle by this duo, and Nos. 1, 2, and 4 are being released on CD for the first time in the world. This is the first time in almost 40 years since the LP era that the complete Beethoven cycle has been released in Japan.
