Spearhead's latest album is led by Michael Franti, a world-renowned philanthropist who has been working for peace and social issues through his music. Spearhead's three Billboard No. 1 hits, "The Sound of Sunshine" and "Say Hey (I Love You)," have been filled with hope, and their pop sensibility is still alive and well. The album features 16 highly accomplished happy tunes that fuse message-driven humanitarian lyrics with a variety of styles including hip-hop, funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. Michael Franti is a singer/songwriter born in Oakland, USA in 1966. Influenced by Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, and Curtis Mayfield, he began his music career as a student. 1986, while at the University of San Francisco, he joined the Spoken Word band Beatnigs. 1991, he formed Disposable Heroes of Hip Hoprisy, and in In 1992, he released Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury. The album's sound and lyrics, full of political and social messages, attracted attention, and the band was chosen to open for U2 on their tour.In 1994, he formed Michael Franti & Spearhead and released "Home" on Capitol Records. Their sound, which blended reggae, hip-hop, funk, rock, and blues, and their songs with a strong message were highly acclaimed. The group continued to release albums consistently, with "The Sound of Sunshine" and others being big hits. They have also gained popularity in Japan, where they have visited Japan many times for festivals such as Fuji Rock and for live performances. He has also traveled around the world as an activist, actively working on peace and social issues. He currently resides in Bali.
