Description:

Kyo Mochizuki's "Blueprint of the Sky". Includes Japanese commentary by the composer himself! Kyo Mochizuki is a composer born in Tokyo in 1969. He studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et de Musique Acoustique de France). He studied with Akira Kitamura, Yoshichika Otaka, Yoshio Mamiya, Paul Mefano, Emmanuel Nunes, and Tristan Muraille. His wide range of works includes orchestral and chamber music as well as opera, and he has received numerous prestigious awards, including the first prize in the composition category of the Japan Music Competition, the Akutagawa Composition Award, and the Otaka Award. His works, inspired by and incorporating elements from various non-musical fields ranging from Greek mythology to gagaku, molecular biology, and physics, have attracted attention both in Japan and abroad. The works have been performed at the Salzburg Festival, Vienna Moderne, Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, and many other venues. The Ethereal Blueprint Trilogy is a series of works for nine players written with the intention of reflecting on the energy of nature and the universe that surrounds us through music. The piece was inspired by phrases such as "When light covers darkness, blue appears" by Rudolf Steiner and "Color is born from the mutual penetration of light and darkness" by Sam Francis, as well as by Goethe and Steiner's theories on color. The first half of the album includes two gagaku pieces by Mayumi Miyata, a leading sho (Japanese bamboo flute) player, which were beloved by Kyo Mochizuki. The booklet also includes a Japanese commentary by Kyo Mochizuki himself.
