Jazz arrangement of Debussy's "Prelude" by virtuoso musicians A reissue of the series (HMM-902308/discontinued) commemorating the 100th anniversary of Debussy's death. The Debussy Quartet, the string quartet that bears Debussy's name, invites guests to perform jazz arrangements of selections from the "Preludes," a two-volume collection of 24 pieces written by Debussy for solo piano. The first track is an arrangement of "The Maiden with Flaxen Hair" and "General Lavine" together. That famous melody can indeed be heard, but it is a mysterious world of tranquility and cakewalks that is somewhat reminiscent of gagaku (Japanese court music). The addition of the accordion gives the piece a sound like that of the sho (a traditional Japanese court music instrument), and it seems to evoke Debussy's Japonism, drawing the listener in. Accordionist Vincent Pelani began playing classical accordion at the age of 11, discovered jazz at 16, and is now a multi-genre player. He also performs with Laurent Corcia on violin. Jacky Terrasson is a German-born pianist-composer with an American mother and French father.From European Classical to Caribbean rhythms, the world is captivated by her borderless talent.
