150 years after his death, a tribute to the creator of "Carmen The first complete recording of Bizet's "Lieder"! Includes many world premiere recordings Accompaniment by full singers and period instruments The year 2025 will mark the 150th anniversary of Bizet's death. Although he is best known for his "Carmen," there has never been a complete recording of his songs until now. Now, however, the entirety of Bizet's vocal music has been brought to light by leading specialists in the field. The recordings include many of his early works, alternate versions of opera arias, and other unpublished works, all accompanied by the instruments of Bizet's time. [The 16 songs on CD 2 were conceived by Bizet and published after his death. 1, 9, and 13 are from "La Coupe du Roi de Thule," 4, 5, 6, and 14 are from "Clarice Harlow," and 8, 12, and 16 are from "Griseldis. The original for 10 is unknown.The 15 pastels were composed for a poem entitled "Portraits," and a new poem was commissioned and completed by Philippe Gilles for the recording of this collection. The unpublished early works on [CD3] are a rediscovery of Bizet's prodigy status: "Oh! She is so beautiful to watch" was written when he was 9 or 10 years old. Vocalise and Boat Song for two sopranos are also documented as having been written when he was 11 years old. 'Most of Bizet's songs are in several keys for middle and high voices. Our first thought was to follow the conventions of the salons, which were open to all kinds of vocalists. There, singers followed the conventions of the time, playing melodies in the keys that suited them, as they wished, with eclectic programming that casually mixed genres, styles, periods, vocal types, and instrumentation. This diversity, the opposite of today's trend, was greatly embraced in the public concerts of the time. We respected the published music scores and retained the order of the pieces as well.This was a clear decision by the composers and their publishers, often intended to create variety and contrast."
