Master recorder player's performance on an ancient instrument is planned. Unique latest work by a young artist. Lucie Holsch, a young recorder player from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is releasing a new album honoring the legacy of another Dutch master recorder player and conductor, France Brugghen (1934-2014). This unique project will be performed on Brüchen's rare ancient instruments. Brüchen was a true pioneer in the revival of old music, and he possessed an impressive collection of historic recorders from the 1680s to the 1740s. Those instruments were silent for 10 years after Brüchen's death. Now they have been revived by Lucie, a compatriot of Brüchen, with special permission from Mrs. Brüchen. The instruments were fragile, and Lucy was sometimes only able to play them in two takes. The end result would have been almost like a live recording" (Lucy Horsch). What makes Brüchen's collection unique is that he selected each instrument not for its place in the museum, but for the quality of its performance.Lucy chose the pieces to match the sound of each instrument, some of which required her to completely change her playing technique. The album features the 18th Century Orchestra, founded by Brüchen, Rachel Podger on violin, and Brüchen's nephew, Albert Brüchen, on cello. In the short time I had to prepare the instruments, I realized that playing them revives the power they have," said Brüchen.
