Description:

A collection of talented works by Ukrainian contemporary composer Valentin Silvestrov. Valentin Silvestrov, Ukraine's most important contemporary composer, reflects the influences of Mozart, Schubert, and Mahler in his new work "The Erased Words I Wanted to Say," which recalls his rich musical journey and the chaos of his exile in Berlin, and was awarded the 2022 OPUS Klassik Award. The album includes works from the 1970s to 2023, including the haunting song cycle "Stufen," performed by the renowned Russian pianist Alexei Lyubimov and Ukrainian soprano Victoria Vitrenko, and piano pieces composed in Berlin. Filled with nostalgia and romanticism, these works reveal Silvestrov's gift for melody and poetic power. Highlights include Lyubimov's unique interpretation of "Kitsch Musik," a piano suite inspired by Schumann, Chopin, and Brahms, and "Three Pieces," dedicated to Silvestrov's late wife. Two more recently composed pieces from Berlin capture the sadness of the ongoing war, but end on a hopeful, bright note that symbolizes the longing for peace. Alexey Lyubimov, one of the finest interpreters of Silvestrov's music, brings unparalleled depth and delicacy to these performances, highlighting the brilliance and emotional depth of Silvestrov's music in works of timeless beauty. Valentin Silvestrov, a contemporary Ukrainian composer, is known as a deeply emotional musician who is capable of stirring the heart. His early works were influenced by avant-garde techniques, but he gradually developed a unique style that blends simplicity and deep expressiveness. His diverse works span a variety of genres, including symphonic, chamber, choral, and solo piano works, and are distinguished by his talent for creating vast, emotionally rich landscapes. His style is characterized by a postmodern approach, often incorporating elements of tonality and melody, in contrast to the avant-garde experimentation of his early years. In doing so, he is known for creating works that resonate with both traditional and contemporary sensibilities. He has also made significant contributions to the dialogue between contemporary and traditional music. His blend of innovation and familiarity that appeals to a wide audience has earned him a place in the Hall of Fame of Great Contemporary Composers. Through his distinctive voice, Silvestrov continues to inspire both listeners and musicians, connecting past and present in a moving way. (1/2) Sony Music
