Ivan Moravetz is one of the leading pianists of the 20th century from the Czech Republic (Slovakia). He studied with Erna Grünfeldt at the Prague Conservatory and Ilona Szczepanover at the Academy of Arts in Prague, and made his debut in Prague in 1946, but temporarily stopped performing due to an arm injury. She made her debut in England in 1959 and in the U.S. in 1964, and made her debut in Japan in 1971. This disc features Grieg, Ravel, and Prokofiev's first concertos, all from rare first recordings. The Grieg concerto is Moravetz's only recording, and its release is sure to be a fan favorite. Moravetz's spontaneous and sparkling touch is a charm.
