Description:

The legendary Mazur & LGO's "Ninth" live performance with a splendid lineup of singers at the opening concert of the new Gewandhaus on October 8, 1981 is now available on SACD! The huge choir is a sight to behold. This is the world's first SACD release. Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! The 32nd SACD hybrid version of the latest reissue of ETERNA's original analog tapes in Japan, the monumental live performance of the opening concert at the new Gewandhaus, the new home of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. This is a record of the "Ninth" performed by Mazur and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra at the celebration on October 8, 1981, which also featured Thiele's "Ode to the Sun". In this reissue, only the "Ninth" is released as a single disc. The "Ninth" by Mazur and LGO was recorded in 1974 as part of the complete Beethoven symphony cycle by Victor and Deutsche Schallplatten, and later digitally recorded with PHILIPS. The live performance is characterized by a very lively performance. The performance time is less than four minutes shorter than the first recording, and the performance is highly focused, as is typical of a live performance. Mazur, who has been the Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra since 1970, has been actively interpreting the Ninth, creating a high tension and enthusiasm suitable for a festival, and the Ninth is performed with great dignity. The soloists' overwhelming singing and the gorgeous fourth movement by the four choirs bring the performance to a grand height, making it a performance that cannot be missed until the very end. This performance is highly acclaimed as a masterpiece of the Ninth by Mazur, but although it has been reissued several times on CD, it has not been so well known. It is interesting to see a different side of Mazur from the usual session recordings because this is a commemorative performance, and it is also notable for the high degree of combustion in the live performance. Although this is a special kind of live performance, as a commemoration of a once-in-a-lifetime event, we have recorded it in high sound quality, preserving the atmosphere of the enthusiastic venue at the time. The fact that the recording was made during the last period of analog recording is also a benefit of the latest SACD release, allowing the listener to fully enjoy this rare and passionate performance.
